How We Can Help You (Jobseeker Information)
VOICE understands that finding a job can be a distressing process for most people. The loss of work can make you feel a range of emotions including fear, anxiety, stress, anger, shame and disappointment. If this distress is left unmanaged it can make it even make it harder for you to look for work, apply for jobs, and attend interviews. To cope you might find yourself avoiding tasks that you would normally do, you may start feeling physically unwell and lethargic, and you could use substances to help you cope. Not having work is a frustrating experience and most people feel a loss of self-esteem and confidence.
VOICE psychologists have a wide range of experience in helping people return to work. Our psychologists have specialist training and experience in the field of vocational and occupational psychology in addition to being trained in understanding and improving feelings of distress.
What We Will Provide (Referrer Information)
Our psychologists work within the Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) Code of Ethics. We provide a high quality service including the administration of pre- and post-psychometric tests, comprehensive report writing, and appropriate contact with you as the referrer permitting consent. We also welcome feedback from you to ensure we are meeting the needs of our shared clients.
VOICE has been approved to provide the following four JCAc services:
· Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
· Counselling
· Behaviour Management & Modification
· Other Psychological Support Programs
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a collaborative process where our psychologists work with our clients to determine agreed goals to be achieved in therapy. VOICE psychologists are trained in providing psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring and replacement, behaviour activation, physiological de-arousal, behavioural experiments (including exposure therapy), problem-solving and relapse prevention to help clients improve their psychological health. There is also an emphasis on implementing homework exercises in collaboration with the client to increase transferability of skills outside of therapy. In our experience, CBT is a quick, cost-effective and efficacious for a range of conditions (such as anxiety and depression disorders).
Counselling is provided to allow clients to express their feelings in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment. VOICE psychologists are trained in motivational interviewing, micro and macro counselling skills and solution-focused therapy. We have found counselling an effective process for clients with minimal social and emotional support, drug and alcohol abuse and dependencies, relationship breakdown and for grief and loss.
Behaviour Management and Modification – Sometimes the way in which a client manages psychological distress results in maladaptive behaviours and coping styles manifesting as anger and aggression, self-injury, addiction, personality rigidity and inflexibility, and avoidance . Other clients who benefit from behaviour modification programs include those who experience intellectual or neurological/memory impairment as well as those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our approach is two-fold, first to enhance a client’s awareness of their maladaptive coping style/s with a range of techniques (including reality testing) and second, to enhance emotional regulation with the replacement of adaptive coping skills through a range of interventions including CBT, physiological de-arousal and behavioural experiments (based on the principles of classical and operant conditioning).
